Dental Crowns at Modern Dentistry of Port Charlotte

Dental crowns are a reliable solution for teeth that are damaged, weakened, or in need of extra support. Dental crowns help strengthen your teeth, protect them from further damage, and restore the natural look of your smile.

When Do You Need a Dental Crown?

Dental crowns provide protection and support for a variety of dental concerns. Some of the most common reasons to consider a crown include:

  • Restoring Damaged Teeth: Cracked, chipped, or broken teeth are at risk for further issues. Dental crowns provide the strength needed to prevent additional damage.
  • Protecting Weak Teeth: Teeth weakened by decay or large fillings are more susceptible to infection. Crowns help shield these teeth and preserve their health.
  • Replacing Missing Teeth: Crowns can restore both the function and appearance of missing teeth. They are often used with dental implants for bridges to fill gaps and maintain proper bite alignment.
  • Supporting Dental Bridges: Crowns are often placed on natural teeth or implants to anchor a dental bridge, helping replace missing teeth seamlessly.
  • Enhancing Aesthetics: Crowns can improve the look of discolored, misshapen, or worn teeth, giving you a heathier, more natural smile.

Dental Crown Materials

Crowns are available in several materials to suit different needs. For front teeth, which are highly visible, ceramic, porcelain, or composite resin crowns are ideal because they can be custom-colored to match your natural teeth.

For molars at the back of the mouth, which are essential for chewing, metal alloy crowns are often preferred due to their strength and durability.

The Dental Crown Procedure

The dental crown procedure typically takes a couple of appointments. During the first visit, we will take impressions of your teeth and send them to the lab, where your custom crown will be created.

In the meantime, you will wear a temporary crown to protect the tooth. Once your permanent crown is ready, you will return to our office for the second appointment, where we will place the crown and secure it firmly in place.

After the permanent crown is bonded, you should experience full comfort while eating and speaking in just a few days.
